Long days and short battery life
Today I dropped by Type E Design in Alexandria, VA.
Type E does impressive work in design and print, especially BIG format prints.
Type E Design is actually a very unique name, for as you see the owners real name is Tipy Taylor.
Now that isn’t pronounced “Tippy“; it’s pronounced Typee. or… Type-E if you say it SLOW.
Having a unique name and embracing it, is a real testament to confidence and self respect, and their work and pleasant work environment was very illustrative of this.
I discovered Type E, and Tipy, via Sonia Ourmanova. Sonia is a Designer who was featured in Washington D.C.’s X Design Showcase / Competition. She spoke so candidly of how proud she was of her shop, Type E, that I had to check it out.
It’s pretty cool what you can accomplish by being curious from appreciating and respecting the professional opinions of others in your field.
During my presentation, I realized I had forgotten my power cable for the Macbook. Right in the middle of me showing them some Flash interactive 3D work, that was getting “oohs” and “ahhs” and the “Cool!” treatment… my Macbook just shut down. I had been charging it all night, and I’m a little worried about my battery life… since I unhooked around 10am and my meeting was at 11am and by 12:30pm I was toast??
Luckily someone had an extra cable, and we were back in business… And everyone got some good laughter at my batteries expense.
This only happened as I have recently been on a no-sleep-work-binge, coupled with early mornings.
So I forgot some things from being a little winded…
Other funny things: I couldn’t quickly locate FLA files I always show as examples of my best work… I kind of goofed by not having my Illustration Journal on hand, RIGHT after saying “I do a lot of illustration!”… Good times!
And I kind of drew a blank for a second like I had Alzheimer’s or amnesia when perusing my own stash of examples of work… more coffee!!
After entertaining the 3 person team with my follies and antics, I was rewarded with a always welcome “coool shoes” comment in praise of my Tweed Footscapes.
AWESOME! TOTAL SAVE!
All the same I am very excited about the prospect of working on interactive and design with Type E and the crew.
It was a real pleasure kicking it with the Type E crew today!
I look forward to doing things with them very soon!!
Cooling’ Typ E Yall:
Give them a shout…

But yeah: Anyone else got a MacBook from Summer/Fall of 2006 with battery issues??
